Walking tour NR. 1 - Monumental Naples From the Castel dell'Ovo to the Castel Nuovo

Naples, May 17
Meeting point: Partenope IVOA Workshop Center Hall 3.30 p.m.

Starting from Castel dell'Ovo we will know about the foundation of the greek Partenope and the romantic legend about a siren. Then walking across what was once a fishermen neighborhood, Santa Lucia, we'll reach the largest square of the city, the monumental Piazza Plebiscito where the Royal Palace is standing since the XVII century. We can't miss a stop in the historical cafe Gambrinus, preserved up today in its liberty style and where you can enjoy one of the best coffee in Naples.
Then a stop outside the San Carlo theatre and a quick look at the Galleria Umberto to proceed to the Castel Nuovo, built in the XIV century and restored about two centuries later. Inside we will visit the royal chapel, the amazing Sala dei Baroni, the Tower and the museum with its painting collection and the original bronze door.

The city that was buried during the 79 AD is no sleeping anymore: the very well preserved city is today a little treasure. Entering the city through the old beach we will see some of the private houses, the palestra, the baths and the shops. A time travel to discover habits and lifestyle of romans living here just before the eruption....

The former monastery complex sitting on the hill of the Vomero is today a wonderful museum. From the masterpiece in the baroque church displaying the best artists in the 1600, from Ribeira to Cosimo Fanzago, to the collection of cribs passing through the large cloister, visiting the Certosa di San Martino is a not to miss stop to learn about the best artistic traditions in Naples.

Free entrance to the Certosa di San Martino before 4.00 p.m.

On the pathway of the oldest greek-roman settlement we will discover art, history, traditions and legend of historical center. Kings, women, inventors, ghosts and great painters and architect: a fascinating walk through history in the crowed and complex city of Naples.
